Stacy Merida is a Professorial Lecturer and the first Assistant Dean of Diversity and Inclusion in the Kogod School of Business at American University. Dr. Merida serves as a catalyst to promote a culture of inclusion where all individuals in our community are able to thrive. The role provides leadership for advancing diversity and inclusion as a critical component of social, academic, and intellectual life at the Kogod School of Business. Assistant Dean Merida is an experienced corporate executive and business owner. Diversity, equity, and inclusion are her passion not only from a professional perspective, but personally as well, since she grew up in south Alabama and was raised by a civil rights leader.
Her dissertation topic was to examine the cultural competency in higher education administration. Throughout her tenure at the Zomba Recording Corporation, Sony Music Entertainment, Middle Tennessee State University, and now the Kogod School of Business, she honed her executive management, administrative, and programmatic skills while enhancing the outcomes for each organization. As a board member of the Music & Entertainment Industry Educators Association (MEIEA), she currently serves as the board liaison for Diversity and Inclusion.
Her responsibilities include delivering programming to address the challenges for member professors, researchers, internship supervisors, and higher education administration. Her most recent initiative was the outreach to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Tribal Universities to invite their specific faculty and administrators to join the organization with a free membership. She also serves on the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility committee representing American University as an Affiliate member of The GRAMMY Museum.
